James Gunn seems to be digging the web series world these days. The Scooby-Doo screenwriter is following up on his successful porn flick satire series PG Porn, with the release today of an even racier series, Humanzee! The offbeat scripted comedy was shot back in 2008 and was planned to head to XBox Live, until someone over at Microsoft pulled the plug due to content concerns. Did they really not know what they signed up for when tapping Gunn?
First off, we have to throw out the NSFW warning on the first episode (above), mostly for f-bombs, not nudity. The show itself feels like a live action cartoon sitcom, complete with a laugh track pushing us through the quick setups and reversals. Gunn’s description of what it’s about is just too good to paraphrase:
HUMANZEE! is the story of myself and my human-chimp hybrid son, appropriately named “Humanzee” (played by my brother, Sean Gunn). In the show, Humanzee is created when I send my sperm in a turkey baster on ice to a secret laboratory in Bratislava, they impregnate a female chimp with it, and they send me back my own Humanzee son! —James Gunn
Besides casting himself (as himself), Gunn brought on his brother Sean along with Sorority Forever star Mikaela Hoover, who is just plain stunning (see right), Valentine Miele and Michael Rooker. There’s also actual porn star Jenna Haze, who’s credits you’ll have to Google for yourselves.

Spike TV has ordered 11 episodes of James Gunn’s PG Porn, whose pilot episode ‘Nailing Your Wife’ has garnered over 1.7 million views since its debut on October 8 (200,000 of which were in the first 24 hours). The pilot starred Dr. Horrible’s Nathan Fillion and adult entertainment actress Aria Giovanni, and generated over 1 million views within five days. The 12 episode season will feature a new episode each month, beginning with January’s ‘Roadside Ass-sistance’ (above), featuring adult entertainment star Sasha Grey.
The project is produced by The Good Boys—Scooby-Doo auteur James Gunn and brothers Brian and Sean (Gilmore Girls), in conjunction with Safran Digital Group, and is aimed at people who enjoy everything about porn, except the sex.

Day after Christmas, and the last Friday of 2008. We hope you all are enjoying some time with your families and away from your untreated internet addictions. This week was also chance for us at Tubefilter to catch up on all those web series we have been covering but fell behind a little. Shame on us. We’re talking about series like Valley Peaks (now on episode 7), which is still one of the better genre satires on the web. And there’s Agency of Record, which with us being Adobe nuts already, we say really sets the bar for product in integration in web series. It’s about creatives at an ad agency—Adobe products are basically as basal as chairs and desks. And for silly almost-adult fun, we caught up with the latest from James Gunn’s PG Porn. The Gunn brothers, who playfully called themselves The White Wayans’, have made a few more of these gems and we suggest boning up on them.

James Gunn, creator of the recently launched and wildly popular new series PG Porn, sat down with Tubefilter for an interview. How does the man who breathed cinematic life into Scooby Doo (twice) rock a sound bite?

PG Porn has been up on SpikeTV for a little more than 24 hours, and has already had over 200-thousand views. Just goes to show you don’t have to bare all to be popular on the internets.
