Frequent collaborators, director Dale Fabrigar (a semi-finalist on Steven Spielberg’s short lived On the Lot reality series) and writer Kurt Patino, have teamed up with actress Kelly Stables (best known for playing Evil Samara in The Ring movies) and visual effects wizard Michael Morrealle to produce a new horror/fantasy web series titled Soul Fire Rising. The show, produced by King Dream Entertainment, follows demon Lilith, played by Aimee Lynn Chadwick (Las Vegas, Trade) – who could be compared to a very hot goth Maggie Gyllenhaal – as she wanders through Los Angeles stealing men’s souls while searching for Eve (to be played by Stables in future episodes), a now mortal demon worth one million human souls. The first two chapters, running about three minutes each, are currently available on the show’s website and MySpace. The website also features cast interviews and photos.
Soul Fire RisingIn the first episode, ‘I Give You My Soul,’ Lilith emotionally crushes a young musician (Ryan Freeman of Undressed) when she dumps him. If the musician (who is wearing more eye makeup than Lilith) can prove his love to her, she promises to be with him forever. All he has to do is give her his soul…

A few weeks ago we got you up to speed on The Dark Path Chronicles, the newest web series from FEARnet and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, who last collaborated on the 30 Days of Night series, Blood Trails and Dust to Dust. The first two episodes premiered on FEARnet yesterday – why FEARnet waited until nearly a week after Halloween to release a horror series is beyond me. The site also features a making-of video, a behind the characters featurette and writer/director Mary Lambert’s (Pet Semetary) blog.
The first episode finds teenage Samantha (newcomer Amanda Bauer) reading about World War II, while waiting for her older sister Lisa (Urban Legends: Bloody Mary’s Lisa K. Lambert) to arrive from the train station. Singing while she studies, Samantha’s voice inadvertently awakens former Nazi soldier-turned vampire Jurgen (Carson Aune). We also catch glimpses of the beautiful Enid (played by Cloverfield’s Elena Caruso) and bald vampire Luke (frequent video game actor Joseph Gatt). The Dark Path Chronicles has some cool looking vampires and very creepy imagery – I love the shot of Jurgen standing against a tree.

If last weekend’s Saw V and High School Musical 3 didn’t fulfill your zombie and gore requirements, look no further than the new web series Monster Makeover. Just in time for Halloween, Xbox360 has partnered with the Cinema Makeup School to provide video game and horror movie fans with a brand new reality show based on popular Xbox games.
Hosted by video game bloggers Nelson Rodriguez and Natalie Sousa, Monster Makeover gives five makeup artists the chance to turn gorgeous models into horrific monsters based on creatures from new XBox360 games Left 4 Dead, Dead Space, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2 and Fable 2. The five makeup students – Simpat Beshiron, Robert Lindsay, Erin Dellamore, Morgan Muta and Lea Willard – from Los Angeles’ Cinema Makeup School (located right next to the historic Wiltern Theatre) will be competing for the grand prize of an Xbox360 prize pack (including an Xbox360 Elite, the five aforementioned games and a Zune music player) as well as an industry job. Viewers also have the opportunity to win a prize pack by entering on the Monster Makeover site. The zombies are judged by Cinema Makeup School instructors/veteran makeup FX Xbox 360 artists Leonard Engelman (How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Batman Forever) and Lee Joyner (Mimic, Godzilla).

Doug Hutchison has added a new notch to his impressive resume by creating the new horror/action web series Vampire Killers. “I’ve always been intrigued by vampires,” Hutchison told Tubefilter. “Every year on Halloween, I dressed as Dracula! Now, in my adult life, I find myself continually turned on by vampires.”

If you’re like me, then lately you’ve been starved for good, original horror content, whether in theaters, on TV or on the web. There’s just nothing scary out there anymore (though I have yet to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua). Like Showtime’s Masters of Horror and NBC’s Fear Itself, Fewdio’s Nightmare House is a weekly series of standalone scary stories rather than a continuing narrative.

Don’t get me wrong; I love a good Quentin Tarantino movie, but I was under the impression people stopped ripping him off sometime around Jackie Brown. I was wrong. 60 Frames’ new series, Infamous, seems to be stuck in the late ‘90s when Tarantino imposters were still running amok.
