Top 10 Most Highly Rated YouTube Comedy Videos Today — March 25, 2011

New feature we’re trying out today on Tubefilter. We were pulling this list together of the most “liked” videos on YouTube today (since we were curious) and this led to an oddly captivating slate of videos. And there’s some actual news in here, in that these aren’t the “Most Watched” but instead the more subtle metric of what popped the most today from within the sometimes fickle YouTube community. We limited the search to “Comedy” for now, though we’ll be experimenting with other categories as we go. Enjoy and take note, some may be a little NSFW for language, so throw on some headphones.

Exclusive: Johnny Knoxville On ‘Jackass 3.5′

In November Tubefilter broke the news that Johnny Knoxville and his Jackass crew were planning on an online-only followup to their mega hit Jackass 3D. We now know that on April Fools Day the pranksters are premiering Jackass 3.5 on the newly reminted Joost.com, now part of the Adconion Media Group.

The feature length movie, which will be distributed first as a compilation of several web episodes, features over 80 minutes of all-new footage shot during Jackass 3D production. Tubefilter had a chance to sit down with Knoxville, Chris Pontius, Wee Man, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and director Jeff Tremaine discuss their favorite parts:

Highlights include Steve-O’s painful introduction to a snapping turtle, Bam Margera’s rocket-powered trip to Uranus, and Chris Pontius’s wood pecker. “His poor penis,” lamented Tremaine. Jackass 3.5 is the first of the projects to make use of the Phantom super slow motion camera, which documented every face slam, body blow, and nut shot in agonizing detail.

When asked about his penchant for sailor outfits, Knoxville gave this coy response: “I’m just crazy about seamen.” Speaking of which, Jackass 3.5 also features the only successful prank pulled on Knoxville, in which his face lotion was infused with horse semen. It went undetected by Knoxville for over a month until it was revealed at the Jackass 3D cast and crew screening. Knoxville’s take:

Zach Galifianakis Brings Brody Stevens to HBO

Early adopters of the online episodic video internet may remember TBS’ now defunct but not forgotten web destination for alt humor, Super Deluxe.

And for those that do remember Super Deluxe, you might recall the site was home to an irreverent faux talk show hosted by Brody Stevens, an LA-based comic with a strong nose who takes orders from an all-powerful Shadow Man, who promises the comedian Hollywood fame and fortune in return for completing a few simple tasks.

Comedy Death Ray’s Brody Steven’s Interview Challenge is like Rosemary’s Baby except with celebrity interviews instead of a wife with antichrist. If that simile makes sense to you, or you recollect any of the above, you’ll be happy to hear Stevens may appear in another series on a different medium.

Nellie Andreeva at Deadline reports Zach Galifianakis recently expanded his relationship with HBO. The Between Two Ferns star signed a first look deal with the pay cable network. The first project he’s slated to develop under the agreement is a low-budget mockumentary, which chronicles a day in the life of a comedian. It stars Stevens as himself.

‘Jeff Lewis 5-Minute Comedy Hour’ Buttons First Season, Preps Second

Vork was bound to get his own show. Well, by that I mean the web needed more of the cerebral deadpan comedy of The Guild star Jeff Lewis. Thankfully, Lewis had made a few friends who know a thing or two about shooting web series after four seasons on one of the most popular scripted comedies online.

Teaming up with Guild director Sean Becker, Lewis birthed a series of sharp five-minute sketches that would feature a number of his comedy pals like Felicia Day, Alex Albrecht, Tom Konkle, Vince Caso, Robin Thorsen and Jamie Kaler.

The Jeff Lewis 5-minute Comedy Hour debuted back in October of last year with Guild-cast-heavy “Tag” kicking off the season. To date, it’s still the most popular in terms of views, netting just under 80,000 so far on YouTube. Throughout the season, 5-minute would push the comedy lines into mature corners, often slapping an NSFW warning before episodes like “Finacée” and Felicia Day’s guest starring spot in “Date“—which incidentally is one of the most popular.

If Star Wars Were Managed by Michael Scott

CollegeHumor recently upped its programming slate. The destination for coeds and comedic online video connoisseurs put its major initiatives in the web series world on hold in 2008 to pursue a production model that releases one viral video sensation after another. But after executing a successful stint in episodic online video last Fall (with titles like Very Mary Kate, Full Benefits, and Hello My Name Is), CollegeHumor is once again back in the business of making web series. Watch Troopers and you’ll be glad the company came around.

The program takes the Clerks conversation on Jedi politics to its next logical step. There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of soldiers in the Imperial Army, right? And those individuals, even the nondescript ones behind the Stormrooper masks are people, too, right? So wouldn’t they be susceptible to the same whims, desires, SNAFUs, and blundering mistakes like the rest of us?

Aubrey Plaza (from NBC’s Parks and Recreation) stars as a mildly annoyed princess from Alderaan with a weird harido who puts up with a couple of stormtrooper-like guards (played by Sam Reich and Josh Ruben) who graduated from the Michael Scott School of Business Etiquette, Tactics, and Management.

The series explores topics Star Wards fanatics talk about with their friends when they’re bored, excited, and/or under the influence of illicit substances, like how long does it take to get from one place to another on an intergalactic space station the size of a planet, are their seminars to learn Jedi mind tricks, and what’s the 9 to 5 grind like for you average, low-level Imperial Army enrolee.
