Instead of just fighting to protect the narrow, economic interests of a small group of corporate advertising-sponsored and corporate media-employed writers, perhaps the Writers Guild of America-East should be fighting for both U.S. writer-media workers and U.S. working-class community control over all U.S. television networks and an immediate end to institutional classism, institutional racism, institutional sexism and media censorship of U.S. anti-war voices at the U.S. television networks.

ISSUES will have a presence at the Paley Center event, and I'm really looking forward to catching up with some of the people on the panel. What the WGAE is doing is a huge step forward for those of us who are trying to make New Media into a legitimate creative outlet as well as a financially balanced institution. The WGA West would do well to take a page from the East's playbook on this one, methinks.
