MTV’s Hinterland Tales has carved out its own online video niche: the vintage nature video parody. Presumably shot on 8mm, all the installments have that 70′s, classroom PSA kinda feel. A little bit of Dick Proenneke’s Alone in the Wilderness mixed with dirty old Red Asphalt, the driver’s ed. sensational scare-tactic classic. But while Hinterland [...]

WebSerials.com just keeps making The Black Dawn more and more compelling.
We first covered The Black Dawn when the show premiered in February. Then, we were wowed by the production values, the performances, and the supplementary “integrated content” – in-character video blogs, director’s commentary clips, and even an online comic that all served to deepen the world of The Black Dawn.
Produced and directed by Joshua Sikora, Catalyst focuses on the story of Dr. Steven Wilkins (Skip Pipo), a character who was killed in the initial moments of The Black Dawn but has recently caught viewers’ interest after one of the characters discovered that he had a list of all the names of the survivors in his office.

What would it be like if Don Michael Corleone’s career as an organized crime king became a complete failure? Instead of worrying about other rival mobs attempting to assassinate him, Corleone would worry more if he could even afford enough bullets to shoot back. And instead of saying that famous line his father taught him, he’d rather say, “keep your friends close…because at least you can ask them for money.”
Well thanks to Streamy Award winning director Blake Calhoun, we’d get a good idea in seeing an organized crime family become unorganized in his latest “mobumentary” web series, 88 Hits, which launched on KoldCast TV this week.
Documentary filmmaker Robert Brewer (played by David Wilk) follows the daily dysfunctions of family boss Paul Pascadelli (played by Paul Slavens), his nephew and under boss Tommy Pascadelli (played by Troy Grant), the main collector Franky Ford (played by none other than…Frank Ford) and head of gambling operations Darnell Washington (played by Oliver Tull).

Earlier this evening, before sitting down to watch some internet, I had a quick chat about music with Tilzy.TV editor Josh Cohen. He was saying that he felt disconnected from a lot of contemporary music and as I was about to respond to his lament, but his phone rang for a call he had to [...]

The trouble with product placement is its corruptibility. The minute we notice character A hand character B a bottle of Pepsi and a Domino’s pizza box it takes us out of the story. To its credit, Season in the Balance is rarely that obvious, even though it has every right to be. New Balance gave [...]

It doesn’t take a whole lot of imagination to spin a few funny yarns about the bar pickup ritual – everyone know people do stupid things to get drunk and laid. (As far as I know, that’s basically how Tucker Max started his career.)
Which is precisely why, out of all the possible web shows that 2 Funny Films (Kevin Susman and James Murray) could have created, Duck Walks Into A Bar… is the most unexpected. And – dare I say it – brilliant.
Naturally, the show consists of the titular character, Duck (a duck-puppet with a vest and a bowtie) engaged in various barroom interactions; one episode has him swapping conspiracy theories with Robert Wisdom (Lechero from Prison Break), and another has him talking politics (and hustling drinks) from a politician up for re-election (Carlos Alazraqui from Reno 911). Most of them, however, involve a seemingly endless stream of Hot Chicks pouring out their man-woes to the oh-so-cuddly – and crafty – Duck.

Microsoft has ordered a third season of Felicia Day’s Streamy-winning gamer comedy web series The Guild, with 12 new episodes set to come out this summer. The deal comes after a successful run of Season 2, which netted several million views so far for Microsoft on its network that included Xbox Live, MSN and the Zune, including dominating the charts of the Zune Marketplace.
The exclusive distribution deal, along with the sponsorship from Sprint which was announced last November has been renewed, though presumably at a higher upfront rate than before. As Felicia told us in a recent interview, she and the team at Knights of Good seem happy about having Microsoft on board:

Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes) is teaming up with Agility Studios to create a hosted sci-fi web series, Ultradome, which will attempt to humorously settle long-standing debates in the comic and sci-fi worlds. First up is a faceoff of fanboy favorites Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings, presumably to determine who would win a Darth Vader vs. Gandolf battle or if The Force trumps the Ring and so on.
It’s looking like a hosted series, with two subjects facing off in each episode tasked with questions such as “Should I have a Lord of the Rings- or a Star Wars-themed wedding?,” or “Could Harry Potter beat Neo in a fight?”
Ventimiglia is producing the series through his diVide Pictures outfit and stars in the pilot episode, “Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings.” He will also direct select future episodes of Ultradome, which was co-created with partner Russ Cundiff and Agility execs Keith Quinn and Zev Suissa.
