Modest Mouse. The Killers. Death Cab for Cutie. Aside from all being commercially successful indie rock acts, the three bands, along with a handful of others, share something else in common. They all owe much of their success to a single gig at the same venue: The Bait Shop in Newport Beach, California, the fictional [...]

If you’ve been hankering for some more awkwardly wacky improvisational comedy, you’ve got great timing, because The AV Club is debuting their new web series, Striker and Swat, on Tuesday.
Striker and Swat is a mockumentary-format show centered around the hijinks of two roommates who seem to have very little in common besides an abundance of free time; Striker (James Bonadio) is intense, aggressive, and neurotic, and Swat (Steve Berg) is mellow and gentle. Together, they’re unstoppable, and no one in their boring Southern California apartment complex can stand in their way. What’s more, in addition to Bonadio and Berg, the show brings in several veterans of the improvisational comedy scene, like Nick Armstrong who has shown up on The Office, and Dave Holmes, who you might remember from Reno 911! Miami. That’s a lot of talented people appearing in a show which puts the communal dryer’s unclean lint filter in the center of the first episode’s plotline.

Ah yes, the college dorm life—such wonders it held for many of us. As we hauled our asses out of our beds—hung over or over somebody—to get to our academic destinations, each step we take brings us memories of the night before. From the booze filled conversations, the awkward recitals and to the pleasurable score of the evening, the dorm life would always revolve around the three necessities of college education: drinks, company and sex.
But what if all of a sudden, you witness one of your dorm neighbors being dragged away in a body bag by two mysterious men who seem to have no affiliation with the school or any fraternity. The party stops all of a sudden…
Creators Adam and Nolan Lebovitz introduces their new web series FreshmanJulie, a suspense-thriller about a college newcomer Julie (played by Lindsay Rathert), who documents her daily life with a webcam as she explores the wonder and surprises of first year in the university. Her chronicles took an unexpected turn when she finds out that her dorm neighbor and love interest, Craig (Kevin Reich), went missing.

If playing Left 4 Dead on Xbox has taught me anything, it’s that in the event of a zombie apocalypse, the company you keep can means the difference between life and death. You need to know that your fellow survivors will work as a team, stay cool in the face of undeath, and most importantly, [...]
