'Socktube' Sends Up 'Slumdog,' Signs with Wizzard

If you’re not a Harry Potter fan, the selection of quality puppetry on YouTube is somewhat bleak. But if you appreciate acerbic movie parodies and live for pop culture references of questionable relevancy, Socktube has you more than covered. Socktube is produced by LA-based Attention Span Media, the same folks behind the awesome, college-aged mockumentary [...]

Absurd Potty Humor & Canadian Wit are 'Inside Steve's Mind'

OMG! Is Steve getting all Mr. Hankey with his excrement? Yes. He is. And that’s just one of many reasons why children – despite their love of Mr. Hankey – are not allowed inside the absurd, disgusting, hilariously Canadian place that is Inside Steve’s Mind. The five-part online series is literally full of potty humour [...]

GameZombie’s ‘ButtonMashers’ Gets Gamers All Riled Up

As anyone on the Internet knows, web forums and blogs are where cutting-edge news breaks, scathing arguments lash back and forth, and hours of potentially productive time simply disappear. ButtonMashers saves you the hours required to stay current on all your video game communities by tracking the big news items of the week and reading the community zeitgeist for a few minutes in each episode. Yes, the hosted series basically consists of reading forum posts out loud on-camera – and don’t worry, it’s much more entertaining than anyone could have imagined. This means that one moment they’ll be covering an industry pro, like Cliff Bleszinski, and the next moment they’ll be reading JoeSchmoe510′s comments like it was all the news that was fit to print. It’s kind of like a mix between Fox News and Maury Povich. With video games.

The show is co-hosted by Chelsey Matrix (the violent one), Keetin Marchi (the too-nice-for-TV one), and Sam Sher (the nerdy one), though I use the word “hosted” rather loosely; the show is just as much improvised banter as it is scripted news, and it’s better for it.

What started 20 months ago as a master thesis project for GameZombie Founder Spencer Striker, has become a full-fledged web tv gaming hub, with it’s flagship series ButtonMashers racking up over 5 million views so far on YouTube and Bebo. The series shoots on campus at Indiana University at Bloomington, which boasts a comfy $1 Million HD studio. We caught up with Striker and BM writer John Quick for a brief interview.

Spanglish Comedy & Mispronunciation in 'Ylse'

How do you pronounce Ylse? It’s like eel-say. Or, as the main character emphatically states in the series’ first episode, “Think illegal and sexy.” Sounds easy enough, but some people at the male-dominated news network just don’t know how to hit the hard Spanish vowels. They also take Ylse’s guide to pronunciation a little too [...]

Hardee’s Shifts Gears Into Wacky ‘Slotcar’ Racing Series

Animax, the entertainment studio founded by Dave Thomas (Brother Bear) and ad/production man Andrew Bain, is filling up its tank with restaurant chain Hardee’s for a new web series to poke fun at new American past time – stock car auto racing.

Launching this week and produced by Animax web branding unit Unplugged, the series of one- to two-minute Slotcar episodes will include highlight packages, driver biographies, controversial stories, rumors, speculation as well as parodies.

“We produce each webisode only a week out from the launch date, so we are able to keep the content fresh and topical,” Animax COO Tim Jones said. “If something big happens in a race on Saturday, you’re going to see it spoofed on the next Slotcar webisode.”

‘Pro at Cooking’ Pwns Your Kitchen

If you’re not quite tuned into the gaming world, you might be missing out on one of the best-kept secrets of web TV. Move over, Rachael Ray: Pure Pwnage fans know that the world’s supreme celebrity chef is Dawei “Dave” Lee.

Pro at Cooking follows a very simple format: Dave cooks a different dish in each episode with the help of an attractive young female sous chef, who is invariably fired for running afoul of Dave’s irascible temper. So far, the episodes have covered recipes like “Dave’s Ass Kickin’ Alfredo Pasta”, “Dave’s Pimpin’ Pizza”, and, most recently, “Dave’s Succulent Sushi.” What’s more, the recipes are readily available on the website so you can watch the show for the entertainment without having to constantly rewind to double-check the recipe.

Personally, I think it’s a crime that this show hasn’t been picked up by the Food Network yet.

If watching through the show’s seven episodes wasn’t enough to satisfy your appetite, co-producer Davin Lengyel was on hand to answer a couple questions about the inner workings of Pro at Cooking.

Small Town Girl 'Leaving Bliss' for Hollywood to Have Optimistic, Rubbing Time

What’s the deal with Bliss, Idaho, and why are we leaving it so soon? I think the answer is that there is no deal. According to Patience Owen, Leaving Bliss‘ main character (played by Shanna Micko), Bliss has a population of 275, “well 275 and 1/2. Peggy Johnson just had a baby girl!” The Wikipedia [...]
