Purchase Bros. Combine Machinima and Live-Action in 'Half-Life: Escape From City-17'

The contemporary rise of “massive multi-player online role-playing game” (MMORPGs, or MMOs) subculture has birthed a phenomenon of emergent gameplay called machinima. A portmanteau of “machine cinema“, machinima refers to the generation of new video art based on manipulating particular game animations, graphics, and characters in order to craft a story.

‘Odd Jobs’ – If Craigslist Had a Web Series

While on first look, this might seem an uneasy mix of job search services, news links and video comedy, viewing episode one of Odd Jobs the web series, solidifies the concept of Odd Job Nation as a clever idea in capable hands. Jeremy Redleaf is the main force driving the content; he is writer, director, actor and producer with a capable team of actors, design and web support behind him out of the New York based operation, Brackets Creative.

It’s entire hook is that the job hunting, business deals and employment on this site are not dry or boring, but accessible and comic. Indeed if Craigslist had a series, Odd Jobs would be it. Ashley Albert and Redleaf are executive producers on the series from a concept by Ashley, produced by Colin Hornett which stars Redleaf, Devin Ratray, Alexandra Daddario, Frank Simms, Johnny Pruitt, Perry Silver, Chris Knowings, and Anna Garner with a great supporting cast.

‘Anyone But Me’ Brings Solid Drama to Strike.TV

There’s a continuing argument about web programming– if shows should be tailored to the web, or if web series are simply a trial run for television. In the ocean of content out there, sometimes watching a product produced by a hand with experience is the greatest joy irregardless, even if the show doesn’t quite fit into either category.

Strike.TV’s Anyone But Me has the makings of a mainstream show, but tackles issues some network programmers may not want to touch with a ten foot pole. The show embraces touchy issues such as dealing with post-9/11 consequences, racism, and discovering your sexuality all while also dealing with being a teenager. The themes are handled deftly by pro writer-producers Susan Miller (thirtysomething, The L Word) and Tina Cesa Ward. Tubefilter caught up with the pair to get the scoop on all the Anyone But Me drama.

Heidi Klum Saves Fashion Week in Webisodes for Modelinia

What’s better for some buzz about your new brand than a web series? A web series with Heidi Klum, of course. Check out the [...]

Zach Galifianakis Interviews Cera, Kimmel, Hamm 'Between Two Ferns'

In our ever-ironic infotainment world of pre-packaged celebrity and one-hand-washes-another show biz fawning, satiric talk shows are not coincidentally becoming increasingly ubiquitous. Jiminy Glick may only exist on Martin Short’s Myspace page these days, but imitations abound, from Stephen Colbert’s self-congratulatory victory laps before his silly Q and A’s to The Michael Showalter Showalter, the [...]

Leaked: ‘My Two Fans’ Trailer From Max Goldenson’s New Digital Production Company

Quarterlife bombshell Barret Swatek is starring in a new series My Two Fans, a fictional 16-episode web series that follows the life of an average late 20’s single woman, Kate Maxwell, as she rebounds from a broken heart with the help of her two fans. The series, set to premiere on March 9th, comes from MWG Entertainment, formed by veteran television, investment banker and new media executive Max Goldenson (daughter of ABC Network founder and television pioneer, Leonard Goldenson).

“The formation of MWG allows me to create a company for the digital age just as my father created one for the analog age,” said Goldenson. “Our business model targets the under-served adult female audience that is internet-savvy and hungry for entertaining and accessible programming. As the first of what we hope will be many projects for this target audience, My Two Fans, created by Lauren Iungerich

The show also features Kate’s “two fans” Franklin (Todd Felix of The Mentalist) and Teddy (Bill Escudier The Comeback, Bones) who, as fans (not friends) insert themselves into Kate’s life, root her on through life’s ups and downs and clean up her dating disasters.

MWG tapped indie film friendly SmogTV co-founder Robert Kandle as VP of Development.

Ten Commandments of La Vida Loca

Warning: watching The Ten Commandments of La Vida Loca might make you feel like a total whitey (if you’re…ah….white of course). I found myself tapping into my senior-citizen-at-the-movies self, i.e: “Wait- who’s that guy? Is that the brother, or the cousin? Why does he want to kill that guy?” And so on. The good news [...]

‘This Week in YouTube’ Keeps ‘Mahalo Daily’ Hosts On Top Of Their Game

Human search engine Mahalo.com launched its hosted web series podcast Mahalo Daily back in late 2007. When longtime host Veronica Belmont was leaving the show last spring, the team pulled together an ambitious competition to find a new host. After a grueling six week contest, “Mahalo Vlog Idol” winner Leah D’Emilio joined Lon Harris in the hosting duties. Now Mahalo Daily airs new episodes Monday and Wednesday with new weekly Soup-style series This Week in YouTube every Friday.

Tubefilter headed over to Mahalo HQ to watch the pair tape This Week in YouTube and find out what videos made the cut this week.
