‘Marvel Super Heroes: What the–?!’ Teases Before April Debut

As Marvel’s upcoming film gets ready to unsheathe its claws with X-Men Origins: Wolverine coming up this May, geeks and fan boys await their next fix of epic superhero adventure. However, as for us loyal followers of the web, Marvel has conjured another saga we can look forward to. But, instead of an incredible battle between good and evil, we’ll witness super villain M.O.D.O.K. unload on some goof for ruining his scene. Yes, just like The Dark Knight and Terminator superstar Christian Bale.

You may wonder, “Um, WTF?!”

That’s right folks, the legendary comic book franchise is taking a jab at satire comedy with all our familiar super heroes/villains this April with the web series, Marvel Super Heroes: What the–?!. This new web series gives a head-bopping nod to Marvel’s superhero parody comic-series, Not Brand Echh, which appeared in the 60s as well as WHAT THE–?! in 1988.

'Midwest Teen Sex Show' Episodes Removed from Myspace, YouTube, Facebook

Midwest Teen Sex Show isn’t nearly as dirty as it sounds. Created by red state (are we still allowed to say that?) natives and Brooklyn transplants Nikol Hasler and Guy Clark, the web series provides a “comically candid alternative to birds and bees euphemisms.” Instead of high school sexual education instructors who teach a curriculum [...]

In ‘Saint James Zoo’ The People Are Animals

Most people go to the zoo to look at all the animals, but with St. James Zoo all the entertainment lies with the zoo workers. It’s clear none of these crafty zoo workers really have any animal training, but that allows for more comedy. In fact, it’s pretty questionable how this hapless group of good-for-nothings ended up at the zoo in the first place, but the witty writing, and quickly paced series easily allows for the conceit. The show is an animal-lover’s Scrubs, set at a zoo and without Zach Braff’s annoying inner monologue, plus more politically incorrect humor that only a web-based show can get away with.

The talented cast of the show was assembled by Ben Grinnell and Ian Eastin of the Zoo Milk comedy. The pair have been involved in internet comedy for quite a while creating comedy virals, including my personal favorite, a series of faux commercials for actor Frank Labatte. See: Frank Labatte’s Accent Elimination Program. Their comedic talents landed them a spot as finalists in Yahoo’s talent contest last year.

Mind-Numbing Office Work Turned Funny and Promotional in 'The Temp Life'

If you’ve ever worked as a temp, than you know. It’s the lowest of the lows of all jobs ever. Substitute teachers at least get to participate in fun games. Substitute office workers learn the superficial functions of phone systems and coffee makers while trying not to screw anything up. But on the original scripted [...]

History Launches Great and Telling Tales

“We like to call these Great and Telling Tales because they are,” historian narrator Timothy Dickinson quips quixotically at the head of each vignette. The History Channel’s first made-for-web series consists of twelve historical tidbits illustrated with a fanciful exuberance that imitates its teller.

Dave and Tom Send Up C.S.I in 'Safety Geeks'

A fake British accent can be sooooooo annoying. Like when it’s coming from Tyra Banks. Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong used to sing in fake British accent, too, and people hated it, but I dug it. Some things just sound better in British. Punk music is one, and stuffy, silly comedy is another. Dave Beeler [...]

HBO’s Runaway Box Acquired?

Rumors are circling the web television and online video scene that HBO’s Runaway Box, the online comedy production outfit known for Elevator, Man in the Box and YouTube celeb-laden Hooking Up along with other web series, has been acquired. Sources close to the situation confirm that an acquisition has gone forward, with March 1st being the official transition date. The buyer is said to be a well known company in the web video community.

The move follows what we’ve heard to be a shift towards higher-end digital content for HBO, keeping with the network’s strategy as a premium entertainment brand. The comedy veterans, led by Woody Tondorf, Andrew Zilch and Mike Polk at Runaway Box were quick to find a new home however especially after netting an impressive 25 million views for their series, according to video analytics firm TubeMogul. It’s not known whether HBOlab director Danila Koverman will be heading out with the Runaway Box team.
