At some point during your educational years you took a side job for some extra cash. That was most likely your first interaction with co-workers and customers. It can prove to be an eye-opening experience to the world of stupidity and crazies in the world. This is where Issues: The Series begins. The comedy web series is self-described as the “misadventures of the strangest gaggle of geeks this side of cyberspace.”
Zeke Oros (Noah Rothman) starts his new job at a comic book store, Comic Relief, to help pay his way through school, although on his first day he finds a “world that rivals the pages he loves to read”. The store is filled with colorful characters: Mack the assertive but endearing co-worker, Bobby the drunken store manager, Jackson the self-absorbed regular, and Edgar the silent ex-marine.

Emissary revealed itself to the web series world amid the superhero sci-fi hustle and bustle of New York Comic-Con this weekend.
Starring Philip Morris (that’s Smallville and Meet the Spartans Philip Morris, not tobacco company Philip Morris) and co-created by Morris and Dekker Dreyer, former artistic director of the Illusion On Demand network as well as the mind behind Tentacle Grape Soda, Emissary appears to be a rather high-concept science fiction web series about an ages-old struggle between “peak humans” chosen by fate to lead humanity, and those who want their power. What this actually entails is open to interpretation, but the trailer seems to indicate that deliciously mopey shots of New York City, black clothing, and a chance for Morris to show off his martial arts prowess are all going to be had in abundance. Sadly, we’ll have to wait a while for this one – Emissary isn’t supposed to start production until late 2009, with the first episode currently aimed for an early 2010 release.

MTV has been making its moves lately in the web television scene, deciding to scoop up hot web series brands rather than developing them as online properties. The latest call-up The CollegeHumor Show debuted last night on MTV, loosely chronicling daily life at the NY-based comedy site.
Web comedy vets Jake and Amir—Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld—star alongside Dan Gurewitch, Jeff Rubin, Patrick Cassels, Sam Reich, Streeter Seidell, Sarah Schneider (the lone female lead) and CollegeHumor co-founder Ricky Van Veen.

In Strike.TV‘s comedy series, Hold Please, lead character, Mandy Stern (played by co-creator Royana Black) reveals Liz Lemon-esque social quirks, like passing off the sarcastic remarks she makes under her breath as getting “the whispers.” You know, it’s an acting thing. And that’s exactly what Mandy wants, an acting thing. But big breaks are hard to [...]
