Interview with David Faustino and Corin Nemec of Crackle's 'Star-ving'

Like Garfield and classic Nintendo characters, childhood stars venerated by Children of the 80s are finding their way onto the internet and into online video. David Wain has his Wainy Days, Kurt Loder does a Lapdance, and now David Faustino and Corin Nemec are Star-ving. The shiny new, 12-part original online web series created and [...]

Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Rose and Web Celebs Team Up On ’24 Hours At Sundance’

Digg founder (and Diggnation host) Kevin Rose is teaming up with Ashton Kutcher (creator of Blah Girls web series and a few other things) to do a 24-hour reality web show during this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Titled 24 Hours At Sundance, the series features a veritable who’s who of internet celebs: CJ Peters of Konsole Kingz, VentureBeat Founder Matt Marshall and web journalist star Shira Lazar, gadget blogger Meghan Asha and internet personality Irina Slutsky all competing for…something unspecified. Really, all we know is that it starts on Saturday, January 19th, at 9am and co-hosts Kutcher and Rose have final authority to determine the winner.

‘Star-ving’ Artist David Faustino Talks Up Premiere on Crackle

David Faustino has arrived on the web. Crackle’s new comedy web series Star-ving premieres today, kicking off a riotous look inside the life of the former Married…with Children star’s groveling reality. Ok, so it’s not quite reality. Faustino plays himself of course, only he’s broke, out of work and begging his rich Hollywood pals for money. His longtime friend Corin Nemec (former star of Parker Lewis Can’t Lose) is the screwball sidekick looking to ride Faustino’s coattails back to glory. Oh, and he runs a porn shop.

There’s a whole roster of comedic gold on the guest star lineup: Ed Asner (The Closer, The Mary Tyler Moore Show); Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy); Christina Applegate (Samantha Who); Seth Green (Robot Chicken); Ed O’Neill (Married…with Children, John from Cincinnati); rap star Coolio; Gilbert Gottfried (The Aristocrats); former Growing Pains stars Alan Thicke, Tracey Gold and Jeremy Miller; the infamous Kato Kaelin; and adult film star Ron Jeremy.

Faustino, Nemec and their friend Todd Bringewatt (co-writer and producer of MySpaceTV’s Rules of The Game) make up FNB Entertainment, the three year-old production company that created the series. We had a chance to talk to the three pals about their first web project and the creative freedoms of having their own web series.

How Do Web Video Creators Talk to Advertisers?

Internet video advertising was all the rage until nobody, including Google, could quite figure it out. The theoretical, and now demonstrated, value of online video advertising precedes our collective ability to effectively monetize it, but strides are being made. Dan Beltramo, CEO of Vizu, an online market research and opinion polling firm, recently articulated “across-the-board” [...]

Purina Refills ‘Rabbit Bites’ Bowl, Buns and Chou-Chou Rejoice

Fans of Rabbit Bites will be glad to hear that pet food maker Purina has renewed its sponsorship at 300% of its previous rate. The partnership will last at least through the year, paid at a per-episode rate, so don’t expect to see Buns or Chou-Chou on tabloid covers for debauched parties anytime soon.

Nicholas Quixote, the creative mastermind behind Rabbit Bites, sounded pretty pleased to hear it. “They are giving me significantly more money, so I have more time,” he said, “I can now focus on the business. Another key thing to me is that it’s not a tech company. It’s a cornerstone, old line company saying they believe in web video: someone making films out of his house.”

Rabbit Bites is an incredibly surreal comedic look at popular culture through the eyes of bunny couple Buns and Chou-Chou. Highlights include episodes about Dateline NBC’s To Catch A Predator and American Idol as well as a host of special guests, including MadTV comic Bobby Lee, actor David Alan Grier, and web personality Chad Vader.

Whoopi Goldberg and FEARnet Debut 'Stream'

In the first few moments of the first scene of FEARnet‘s latest original web series Stream, I expected Whoopi Goldberg to snap her fingers, smile, and start singing a tune tweaked with theocentric lyrics from the days when American Bandstand was relevant. The high ceilings, stained glass, vaulted windows, marble floors and overall ecclesiastical atmosphere [...]

Strike.TV Profile: Keeping Up with ‘Joe & Kate’

As we still wonder whether or Hollywood will be bracing for another work stoppage, many of the fruits of the writer’s strike continue to wrap up on Strike TV. Some of the by-products were pretty darn good: see Tubefilter’s article on With the Angels finale and of course our reviews of the opening lineup, but a big question is what’s next for all the strike-generated material? Tubefilter caught up with Kate Purdy of Joe & Kate to find out what she thinks.

Tubefilter: How did you get involved with Strike TV?

KP: I was working on Unitedhollywood.com during the strike and some of the members began talking about creating another website where we could host original material. That became Strike TV.
