‘The Meatgrinder Show’, Did They Really Just Do That?

One word: tweaked.

The brilliant thing about internet entertainment at this stage in the game is that it truly is the Wild West. Anything goes and to each his own. And creator Chris Erb and co-creator Dal Wolf (FEED) certainly have their own vision. If you can imagine Jim Henson huffing glue for three days, then blasting an entire eight-ball in 3.4 seconds and writing the first thing that comes to his mind, then you’re probably in the ballpark of what The Meatgrinder Show is.

Directed and mostly written by Chris Erb, The Meatgrinder Show tackles such pressing issues as sexual exploration, incontinence, whale semen, “poop sex”, the time-space continuum and terrorism. And yet, all the while what it’s really about is a beautiful friendship between nice guy Zach and his repulsive orange puppet buddy and roommate, Meatgrinder. These guys are college friends that stayed together after school and now, what in college might have been considered standard shenanigans, has morphed into complete and utter dysfunction…even with Zach’s attempts at good intentions. It’s The Odd Couple, on acid.

‘$5 Cover’ Trailer Posted, Brewer Gives Sundance A Tease

One would think that it would be easy for a web series to get lost in the hubub at Sundance, with A-list talent cozying up to press and agents huddled around coffee in freezing temperatures.

But if that web series was created by Craig Brewer, the force behind Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan? And if that web series had the backing of MTV? Then one has $5 Cover, another blurring of the lines between reality television and fictional storytelling, and it’s “sneak peak” at Sundance on tonight at New Frontier on Main.

Tonight night, though, that energy will be in Park City, as Brewer unveils clips from the show. He is scheduled to be joined at the event by musician Amy LaVere and actress Clare Grant, two of the show’s stars. $5 Cover will debut in mid-March with a 15-episode season, and as we noted earlier, there’s still time to get up to speed on them before the hype kicks in full steam.

January Hollywood Web TV Meetup Mashes Up Cinespace

Um. Wow. That was one hell of a way to wrap up the Meetup—with 300 teenagers rushing the stage as “I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T” by Webbie featuring Lil’ Boosie and Lil’ Phat blasted the space. As Sean Percival of LA-based tech gossip rag lalawag put it, what resulted was “an interesting mashup of Twittering geeks moshing with LA hip-hop-artti.” But perhaps we’d better start from the beginning. With an RSVP-list topping out at over 600, Cinespace was bursting at the seams with another massive turnout for the Hollywood Web Television Meetup.

This month featured seasoned podcasters Tosca Musk and Jeff MacPherson of veteran series Tiki Bar TV who talked about distribution, merchandising, having fun, and receiving alarming phone calls from Steve Job’s office.

‘Fiddlestixx’ and Banana Trips From Zellner Bros. on Atom

Sure, you chimps may have struck fear across the streets of New York City and threw barrels at a fat-yet-agile plumber. But does either of you chumps possess any “magical brain powers” that can make someone eat their dead grandmother’s cremated ashes? Could you take a banana and turn its tropical goodness into a stale and frightening Kielbasa? We didn’t think so and that’s why the Zellner brothers’ new primate, Fiddlestixx, is the new king in town.

“Fiddlestixx is the first web series created by and starring a primate,” said series co-creator David Zellner. In the series, which is produced by and featured on Atom.com, Fiddlestixx employs his “Magical Brain Powers to open a Vortex Portal through Time, taking him and his two human counterparts on whimsical adventures beyond your wildest dreams.”

From ‘Horrible People’ To ‘Hot Sluts’ – The Latest From A.D. Miles

You probably know A.D. Miles from Reno 911, Dog Bites Man, Wainy Days, Wet Hot American Summer or his very successful internationally known online web series, Horrible People. The web series was embraced by an international base of true soap fans and the comedy community as well. Thirteen web episodes were translated into just about every major language in existence and was oddly popular in France, go figure. At one point it was the “#2 most viewed entertainment video” on the internet. With over 1.7 million (and counting) views Horrible People has shown the world that A.D. Miles knows what hungry web audiences want, and how to give it to them.

If you haven’t seen Horrible People, I’m jealous of you because you get to go to www.mydamnchannel.com right now and watch it from beginning to end. Needless to say I am thrilled to death to hear that A.D. Miles has another web series, Hot Sluts, Rated R, in the works. So we reached out to A.D. and asked him a few questions about the sultry new series.
Tubefilter: Who are the stars of your new web series?

Sandy Martin as Jackie the harsh club owner. I met Sandy on the Comedy Central pilot Speed Freaks that I did with Zach Galifianakis. She’s a true one of a kind actor who never fails to make me laugh. We also have Alison Brie from Mad Men as our lead, the part of Amber, a midwestern girl who literally gets off of a bus right in front of the nightclub. I met her through Joe Lo Truglio. A real pro, she came in and got the joke and gave a terrific performance all while wearing a very skimpy outfit. Not an easy task. The rest of the main cast consists of the club employees played Angela Sarafyan, Zach Abel, Shvonna Lavette, and Debbie Boone. Most of them I met through the normal casting process and have to say I feel very lucky, because finding women who are beautiful enough to play Hot Sluts but also good enough of actors to act in the style of the genre was a little like looking for a needle in a haystack. And we found a whole bunch of needles in the haystack. A whole bunch of very talented beautiful sexy needles.

Jimmy Fallon Gives Fives on Diggnation

When I commented in an earlier post that the new Late Night with Jimmy Fallon was likely to use digital media as a “cornerstone of audience building and engagement,” Executive Producer Gavin Purcell quickly chimed in that I was “exactly right.” Strutting his new media savvy again, the next likely Late Night sensation has just [...]
