Kevin James Prepping ‘Dusty Peacock’ For Crackle

Kevin James (King of Queens, Paul Blart: Mall Cop) is prepping Dusty Peacock, a new scripted comedy web series about a hopeless magician-illusionist who’s tricks just never seem to work. Word is that James will direct the series which is being developed by Sony Pictures Television for a late 2009 launch on Crackle.com. Gary Valentine, James’ older brother and fellow King of Queens star, will take the title role as the failed illusionist.

In case it isn’t enough of a King of Queens reunion for you, there’s Queens producer Rock Reuben who’s teaming up on this one. No word on the number of episodes planned, but fitting in with Crackle’s plan for four 13-week seasons per year, we expect 13 eps is a good guess.

Lifeforce TV Launches With ‘Angels’ And Controversial ‘Topics’

Toronto-based Lifeforce Entertainment has launched a new web series network called Lifeforce TV. In addition to housing Lifeforce’s already existing shows Byte Club (profiles of Canadian tech companies) and Men’s Room (men who love women with advice on dating, relationships, and sex, respectively), Lifeforce TV is celebrating its debut by adding two new web series to their lineup.

Angels – Local 437 (above) is a show about watercooler conversations, office politics, and workplace drama. However, this isn’t an Office Space retread here; Angels takes the job humor and applies it to a slightly different corporate environment – Heaven. If Tom Barnett and Ennis Esmer bantering about God’s crab dip at the Christmas party sounds good to you, by all means go check it out.

Table Topics, a talk show about current events, gossip, style, and whatever else the hosts want to talk about, balances out the testosterone of Men’s Room by providing some more female-oriented programming. The premiere episode has our hosts Natalie Duddridge, Jamey Ordolis, and Lily Cheng talking about Proposition 8 and Gay Marriage – as they say in the intro, they’re certainly not shy of controversy.

Kevin James Casts Gary Valentine in 'Dusty Peacock'

Even though I know I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry continues to hurt people, I can’t help but laugh at the scenes where, while lying in bed together, Adam Sandler’s character pretends to channel Kevin James‘ character’s berating dead wife. Trust me. It’s funny when you see it. James’ sensitive ho-hum, gentle giant disposition [...]

Banality in Conflict

Internet video has the power to entertain, but its most profound promise, I think, is to bring people closer. In Palestine and Israel, a few miles between settlements on either side of the border can feel like the span of different worlds and, despite these profound differences — or the intense and relentless violence that [...]

Playboy Tries to Stay Relevant with Interns and No Nudity

What do the kids these days want from a five-and-a-half-decade-old American gentleman’s institution known for picturing naked women? Apparently, a reality show. With no naked women. Or at least that’s what certain Playboy executives thought when they dreamed up Playboy Interns, a “made-for-mobile series” about yesteryear’s dream job. Why yesteryear? Well as David Title put [...]
