Spike Gunns For More 'PG Porn'

In the first episode of James Gunn’s PG Porn – a web series “for people who love everything about porn…except the sex” – Nathan Fillion nails Aria Giovanni. Literally. In a contrived, makeshift set with an aesthetic and soundtrack reminiscent of the era of XXX where a thin Ron Jeremy hung his rising star, Fillion [...]

Rebecca Drysdale is a 'Time Traveling Lesbian'

Hey nerds. Remember when you were 14, and you joined your school’s Sci Fi & Fantasy club? And when you told your too cool lab partner about it, he was like, “That sounds totally gay.”  Good times! Well, the irony is that sci-fi isn’t very gay. Despite the substantial number of gay sci-fi fans (two [...]

February Hollywood Web TV Meetup is Going to Rock

Hollywood Web Television Meetup promises to be one of our best yet. Sponsored by maniaTV, the world’s first internet television network, the Meetup will be taking over the maniaTV’s killer sound stages with screenings of your web series, performances by hip-hop artist Pigeon John and his band Rootbeer (featuring Flynn Adam), and, of course open bar provided courtesy of maniaTV and Heineken.

Due to the overwhelming turnout at the January Hollywood Web Television Meetup, we are limiting the RSVP list so please make sure to RSVP right now to reserve a ticket before they run out—and with an open bar, they’re gonna. Unfortunately, there are no more free Early Bird tickets.

The Radio Star Lives On In ‘Polyester Dreams’

The Buggles proclaimed that video has killed the radio star, but rock DJ Warren Orlando has already cheated death, thanks to Andrew Harrison, star and creator of the new web series Polyester Dreams. The indie comedy series tracks the trials and tribulations of Warren Orlando, a prog rock DJ at radio station WXLA, who follows the rock and roll creed of self-loathing and manic depression in his own way. His misfortunes in life, from his Academy Award winning ex-girlfriend humiliating him in the media to reading half-assed commercial bits, are interwoven with homemade music videos, playing “forgotten” songs mainly from the 60s and 70s.

Other cast members in Polyester Dreams include Satu Rautaharju (appeared on HBO’s Flight of the Concords), improv comedian Rob Lathan (The Colbert Report, Human Giant ) and Dallas Coyle from the metal band God Forbid. Two episodes are currently out, with six more coming in the first season. All episodes are available on iTunes and the show’s official site.

The Pope is a Video-blogger

The Pope is a Video-blogger

First Oprah. Then Obama. Now The Pope himself. As online video becomes the de facto means of global broadcast, YouTube adds the holiest of holies to its ranks of channel-owners. The Vatican will use its channel to provide regular updates on The Pope and the Catholic Church’s take on the major problems facing the world, [...]

MTV, Electric Farm to Air Vampire Web Series 'Valemont'

If they aren’t already, vampires are soon going to be the new go-to subject for entertainment product in a Hollywood that’s incapable of coming up with new ideas (which is fine in my book, as long as they keep getting ladies like Kate Beckinsale to play the latex-clad bad girls). While Blood Brothers and Vampire [...]

Jimmy Fallon’s Social Media Crash Course

It started out innocently enough. SNL star gets groomed as Conan’s Late Night replacement on NBC, so why not give him a few months to play around on the web before things get serious. So, without any background on the web, Jimmy Fallon launches last month (see above) his somewhat daily online series to a lukewarm chorus of meh.

So what’s any smart young go-getter like Fallon do? They get help. So Jimmy packed up and went on a crash course in creating engaging content and actually listening to your audience. Here’s a brief look at his lesson plan (not necessarily in order).

1. Diggnation appearance: Pay Homage to Web Video Godfathers Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht:

A Friday ‘Momversation’ With Heather Armstrong of dooce

Momversation would not be the same without the presence of über mommyblogger Heather Armstrong, founder of dooce. Heather began blogging in 2001 to chronicle her life. Her readers have followed her work in LA, subsequent firing (for blogging about people from work), getting married, moving to Salt Lake City, having a baby, postpartum depression, and current life as a wife and mom. These days a healthy Heather is pregnant with her second child, excited about her new book, and loves sharing her parenting thoughts with the Momversation viewers.

Tubefilter caught up with Heather to ask her about being in a web series and what she thinks the moms of Momversation will come up with next.

Tubefilter: With your blog, new book, and busy family life, how do you make time to be in a web series?

Heather Armstrong: I was really interested the format of it. One because there wasn’t going to be a lot of interference. They were basically asking us to talk about a topic. I wanted to make time for it. It’s a lot of work, but the final products are so good that it is well worth the time I put into it.
